Solar power on a sunny winter's day
Today is cold and sunny. Last night was -1 deg, and right this moment it's 8 deg. It's mid-July.
I have a 3.9kW solar system, which is 11 panels. Here's what's happening:
- at 10am, the solar is producing 1.8kW (I'll check later, too, at around 1pm which will be peak time for my roof).
- my split system Fujitsu heater is on, set to 22 deg.
- I don't have a fancy monitoring system, but I do have "Powerpal" which is a (usually) free basic power monitor and app that you can order online.
- my Powerpal shows that my home using ZERO power at the moment (pic below).
- therefore, my electric heating is running for FREE, and I am heating my home for FREE, with 100% power coming from my solar power.
- today is cold and sunny all day, and I will get FREE solar powered electric heating all day up till around 4pm.
- UPDATE. It's around 1.30pm and the solar is cranking out 2.4kW. This allows me to notch up the heating to 24 deg, still with ZERO power from grid.
- UPDATE. It's nearly 4pm and the sun is fading. I've notched down the heater to 22 deg, and house is a nice temperature, and I've had my home heated for free today.
Here are some pictures:
The solar at around 1.30pm
My Powerpal app display, showing ZERO power consumption, which means I am getting FREE heating in my home.
NOTE, the power spikes are me making tea and coffee 😀
